These titanium bearing SS 321 / 321H Flanges are made to operate within the hazardous temperature range where carbide precipitation develops and are stabilised against carbide precipitation. In this kind of steel, the chromium stays in the solution to maintain full corrosion resistance while the carbon preferentially combines with titanium to form a safe titanium carbide. Type 321 is a modified version of type 304 that includes titanium in a quantity that is at least five times that of carbon and nitrogen.

SS 321 / 321H Flanges are immune to intergranular corrosion when heated within the carbide precipitation range. The titanium addition in SS 321 / 321H Flanges eliminates the formation of chromium carbides at the grain boundaries by tying up the carbon and nitrogen as titanium carbides or nitrides. SS 321 / 321H Flanges have better high-temperature properties than 304 or 304L. SS 321 / 321H Flanges are generally used for parts which are intermittently heated up to 1500 degrees Fahrenheit. For continuous service, SS 321 / 321H Flanges are good to use up to 1650 degrees Fahrenheit. SS 321 / 321H Flanges may be susceptible to chloride stress cracking. SS 321 / 321H Flanges have excellent weldability in the field. Type 321 H has high carbon (.04 - 10) for better high-temperature creep properties.

What is SS 321, 321H Flanges
The higher carbon (0.04-0.10) version of stainless steel 321H is SS 321. It was developed to improve creep resistance and strength at temperatures above 1000 degrees Fahrenheit (537 degrees C).
