Alpha Overseas produces high-quality Monel K500 flanges, also known as alloy K500, which are made of a nickel alloy that combines enhanced strength and hardness with the exceptional corrosion resistance of Monel 400. The age hardening process, in which aluminium and titanium are introduced to the nickel-copper base and precipitated throughout the matrix, produces these different characteristics in Monel K500 flanges. Compared to K400, this method yields K500, around three times the yield strength (110ksi vs. 45ksi) and twice the tensile strength. Monel K500 flanges can maintain their ductility down to -400°F and their strength up to 1200°F.

Unique Features of Monel K500 Flanges-
K500's Corrosion Resistance:
Monel K500 flanges offer a unique combination of high strength, comparable corrosion resistance to Monel 400, and improved resistance to sour gas conditions. Stronger than alloy 400, alloy K500 maintains its strength even in corrosive environments, withstanding sour gas, non-oxidizing mineral acids, salts, and fresh and salt water. With one exception—in some conditions, Monel K500 flanges may be more susceptible to stress-corrosion cracking than Monel 400 ones. Additionally, seawater that is stagnant or moves slowly can cause fouling and pitting; however, after the initial attack, pitting typically slows down.
Excellent Low-Temperature Performance:
Even at -200°F temperatures, Monel K500 flanges are non-magnetic and spark proof. However, in some situations, the processing of Monel K500 can develop a magnetic layer when copper and aluminium are selectively oxidized through heating, leaving a magnetic nickel-rich coating on the outside. Pickling or bright dipping in acid can fix this by removing any magnetic layer and restoring it to a non-magnetic state. Furthermore, Monel K500 flanges provide exceptional low-temperature qualities. When used at subzero temperatures, these flanges enhance their tensile and yield strengths, while ductility and toughness remain almost unaltered. Monel K500 flanges are therefore used in a variety of cryogenic applications.
